Black Radical Imagination Explored in Philadelphia Exhibition Featuring Jafa, Hartt, Bradley, Gary, and Tourmaline

The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia is hosting "Freedom Dreams," an exhibition featuring works from five Black artists: Arthur Jafa, David Hartt, Garrett Bradley, Ja’Tovia Gary, and Tourmaline. This group, which includes artists from various generations, explores themes of American history and cultural memory through their films, videos, and installations. Co-curated by James Claiborne and Maori Karmael Holmes, this is the first time these pieces have been shown in a Philadelphia museum. The exhibition aims to challenge existing narratives related to race, gender, and class in the United States while highlighting the identities and legacies of the contributing artists.
