Black History Month Florence 2026 Presents Three Exhibitions at Murate Art District

The eleventh edition of Black History Month Florence, titled 'Common Time,' is taking place at MAD – Murate Art District in Florence, directed by Valentina Gensini. The event, founded in 2014 by Justin Randolph Thompson and Janine Gaëlle Dieudji, highlights contributions of the African diaspora through three exhibitions. T.J. Dedeaux-Norris presents works on paper exploring Black and queer identity, developed during a Rome residency. Heather Hart installs an environmental piece titled 'Triplet Consciousness' that transforms interior space. A project dedicated to writer William Demby features archival materials, including his 1963 play 'The Angel in the Death Cell.' The exhibition runs until April 12, 2026, in collaboration with the American Academy in Rome.
