Birke Gorm to Represent Austria at 2026 Gwangju Biennale with Attic-Inspired Installation

Birke Gorm, an artist from Austria, has been chosen to represent her country at the upcoming 16th Gwangju Biennale in 2026. Her exhibition, titled 'the evening and the morning and the night,' will convert the upper level of the Eunam Museum of Art in Gwangju into an attic, embodying a conceptual and physical realm of storage and dormant energies. Curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini, this marks Austria's second national showcase at the biennale. Gorm's work examines the life cycle of everyday materials, investigating their collection, reuse, and reinterpretation, as well as the meanings they embody or lose. This initiative is part of the Austrian Pavilion, a partnership involving the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport, and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. The Gwangju Biennale is a prominent international contemporary art event taking place in Gwangju, South Korea.
