Bernardo Paz Plans New Museum and Botanical Garden Next to Inhotim

Bernardo Paz, a Brazilian art collector and former mining tycoon, is in the process of establishing a new museum and botanical garden on a 311-acre property next to Inhotim in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, which has been operational since 2006. This initiative will incorporate art pavilions set within a botanical environment, with the inaugural pavilions expected to launch in September 2027. The projected budget is approximately $195 million, although a representative described this figure as "exaggerated." The museum aims to display Paz's extensive collection of 3,000 artworks, featuring artists such as Michael Heizer, Anna Maria Maiolino, and Sonia Gomes. The curatorial team consists of Allan Schwartzman, Paulo Miyada, and Fernanda Arruda. Potential names for the museum include Instituto Bernardo Paz and Museu das Árvores. Paz resigned from Inhotim's board in 2017 following a money laundering conviction, which was overturned in 2020.
