Berliner Volksbank Extends Berlin Art Week Partnership Through 2028

The Berliner Volksbank has extended its partnership with Berlin Art Week until 2028, as announced in an interview with CEO Carsten Jung. Jung explains that the cooperative bank's long-term commitment to contemporary art is a declaration of support for Berlin and its cultural diversity, not short-term sponsorship. The bank's foundation, Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank, maintains its own art collection and runs exhibitions and educational programs, currently showing "Vietnam. Kunst. DDR. Reclaiming Solidarity," which connects history, migration, and personal experiences. Jung emphasizes that culture is not a luxury for good times, and while private funding cannot replace public cultural support, it can help preserve spaces for dialogue. The bank measures impact not just by visitor numbers but by reaching those who might otherwise lack access to art and fostering new encounters. He notes that Berlin's strength comes from its universities, businesses, science, and cultural and creative scenes, which should be preserved and developed together.
