Berlinde De Bruyckere's 'Need III' Acquired by Staatsgalerie Stuttgart Friends

The Friends of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart have acquired Berlinde De Bruyckere's sculpture 'Need III, 2023-2024' for the museum's collection. De Bruyckere, born 1964 in Ghent, is a leading Belgian artist known for exploring human existence, bodily vulnerability, and the tension between life and death. Her work, developed since the early 1990s, draws on art history and current events, addressing suffering, transience, trauma, security, and beauty. The 'Need' series focuses on body fragments. The acquisition coincides with the exhibition 'THIS IS TOMORROW' at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, which also features works by Doris Salcedo and Teresa Margolles, three female artists who each develop powerful visual languages for the unspeakable.
