Berlin Greens Demand Better Protection for Women's Shelter Workers

The Berlin Greens are calling for enhanced security measures for staff in women's shelters and other protective facilities. Bahar Haghanipour, the party's spokesperson for women's policy, and Werner Graf, parliamentary group leader of the Greens/Bündnis 90, have proposed a comprehensive safety concept. Graf emphasized that social workers, counselors, and all professionals in this field must receive state-guaranteed security. The demand follows a rise in violence and femicides, with 2024 seeing 200 women killed by partners or family members. The concept aims to ensure that those providing protection are themselves protected.
