Berlin doctor sentenced to life for 15 murders, suspected of over 70 more

On Wednesday, a Berlin court sentenced a 41-year-old palliative care physician, known only as Johannes M., to life imprisonment for the murders of 15 individuals through fatal doses of sedatives during home visits from September 2021 to July 2024. Among the victims were 12 women and three men. Judge Sylvia Busch characterized him as a 'serial killer' involved in an 'extraordinary' and 'unfathomable' case, suggesting that the conviction may only uncover a small portion of his offenses. Prosecutors indicated that he is believed to have killed over 70 additional people. His arrest occurred in 2024.
