Bergamo Airport Debuts First 3D-Printed Service Building with Carbon-Capturing Lime Walls
A pioneering 3D-printed structure has been completed at Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy. Designed by WASP, the small service building named Ol Casél features walls constructed using a lime-based mixture that can absorb carbon dioxide during curing. The project, developed in collaboration with construction firm EDILCO Srl and airport operator SACBO, serves as restrooms and a break area for customs staff within the airport's logistics park. Construction involved a modular crane system that extruded material layer by layer over seven days, with the entire process taking 19 days from start to finish. Completed in December 2025, the building represents an innovative approach to reducing environmental impact in airport infrastructure.
