Belfast Singer Winnie Ama Cast as Singing Alien in Supergirl Film

Belfast singer Winnie Ama was cast as a singing alien in the new DC Studios film 'Supergirl' after a chance encounter with director Craig Gillespie. Her original song 'What Are We' was translated into the fictional Bilquis language by a specialist who also created Klingon for Star Trek. Ama, who had never acted before, auditioned two weeks after meeting Gillespie and was immediately fitted for the role. The film, released in UK cinemas on June 25, 2026, stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Jason Momoa as Lobo. Ama's character performs in an alien bar on the planet Bilquis. The four-hour makeup process transformed her into the alien. 'What Are We,' originally released in 2020, fits the film's themes of conflict and trauma.
