Beatriz González Exhibition Features Works Based on Historical Tragedy

An exhibition presents approximately 150 works by Colombian artist Beatriz González, who passed away recently at age 93. González was known for transforming everyday images into striking compositions. Among her notable early pieces is the series "Los suicidas del Sisga" from 1965, which depicts a couple based on a newspaper photograph of Antonio Martínez Bonza and Tulia Vargas, who died by suicide. The paintings use warm colors but convey solemnity, reflecting the tragic source material. González became one of Colombia's most respected artists through such works.
