Bayeux Tapestry Book Bonanza: Eight New Publications Accompany British Museum Blockbuster

The highly anticipated Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum is set to launch on 10 September and will be available until 11 July 2027. On its first day of ticket sales in July, the event amassed over £2.5 million, marking the museum's highest sales day ever. To enhance the exhibition experience, the British Museum Press will unveil eight new publications, including a luxurious Collectors' Edition priced at £200, which features a Swiss-bound book with a full-colour reproduction and a curatorial commentary by Sue Brunning and Lloyd de Beer. The exhibition guide, The Bayeux Tapestry (£45), presents recent findings, suggesting the tapestry was likely crafted in the 1070s, post-1072. A Fold-Out Edition (£15) showcases a 12-metre-long concertina reproduction. Additionally, existing works, such as Carola Hicks's acclaimed 2006 book and the revised edition of David Musgrove and Michael Lewis's 2021 publication, will be reassessed. Andrew Bridgeford's 1066: The Hidden History of the Bayeux Tapestry will also see a reissue featuring a new introduction and postscript, emphasizing the tapestry's English roots and its dual narrative approach.
