Basel Artists Gerda Maise & Daniel Göttin Transform Freiburg Power Station with Light and Labyrinth Installation

An artistic collaboration between Basel-based couple Gerda Maise and Daniel Göttin has transformed the basement of Freiburg's former power station into an immersive installation. Titled 'Spannung,' their work reinterprets the functional industrial space through contrasting interventions. Daniel Göttin connects numerous pillars to create a labyrinthine structure that guides movement through the underground area. Gerda Maise introduces colored lighting that illuminates the dark basement environment. The installation invites visitors to experience the E-Werk Freiburg's architectural features in new ways. Presented by Galerie für Gegenwartskunst, the exhibition opened on March 27, 2026. The artists' combined approach highlights the tension between structural intervention and atmospheric transformation. Their work encourages perceptual shifts within the historic industrial setting.
