Base Design Creates Dynamic Brand Identity for Brussels' Kanal Cultural Center

institutional · 2026-03-15

International creative agency Base Design has developed a comprehensive brand identity for Kanal, a new cultural institution scheduled to open in Brussels in November 2026. The institution will occupy the former Citroën garage building and represents a collaborative venture with Centre Pompidou under the name Kanal–Centre Pompidou. Base Design's approach centers on the concept 'Flow and Overflow,' creating a multisensory system that includes visual elements, motion graphics, sound design with Kiosk Radio, and behavioral guidelines. The identity emphasizes adaptability and evolution, reflecting Kanal's mission as a hybrid public space combining art, architecture, performance, and community activities. Base Design's previous work with cultural institutions like Fondation Louis Vuitton and Grand Palais informed this project, which was developed through collaborative workshops with the Kanal team and local partners.
