Barcelona Apartment Redesigned with Checkerboard Flooring as Central Element

In Barcelona's Sants-Montjuïc neighborhood, a 75-square-meter apartment has been redesigned by Atelier Parasie and Pabellón 33 to create more flexible living spaces. The renovation centers on a checkerboard floor pattern using terracotta and white tiles, which visually organizes the interior. The daytime area was reconfigured by relocating the kitchen to integrate it with the living-dining space, creating a continuous open area. A low furniture line runs from the entryway through the apartment, eliminating the need for new partitions. In the sleeping quarters, sliding doors allow the configuration to shift between two or three rooms. The project aimed to give the previously characterless apartment a clearer identity through material choices and spatial reorganization.
