Barbara Forever Documentary Premieres at Film Forum Sept 4
On Friday, September 4, Film Forum will present the U.S. theatrical debut of Brydie O’Connor’s documentary, Barbara Forever. This film highlights the groundbreaking queer avant-garde filmmaker Barbara Hammer (1939–2019), celebrated for her candid exploration of lesbian sexuality and pleasure in her deeply personal works. Drawing extensively from Hammer's own archives over fifty years, along with audio diaries and dialogues with her long-term partner Florrie Burke, the documentary chronicles Hammer's later years and her artistic journey. Barbara Forever premiered globally at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award, and subsequently showed at the Berlinale, winning the Teddy Award for Best Documentary.
