Babai Unveils Children's Furniture Designed for Dual-Purpose Use

artist · 2026-03-31

The Ukrainian design brand Babai has introduced a new children's furniture collection called Button table and Stool X. Created by co-founders Vika Moskalenko and Olena Zakaliuk, these pieces are designed to serve both children's playrooms and adult living spaces. The furniture is handcrafted in Ukraine using high-grade birch plywood. The design features three structural components—two base sections and a top—each finished in distinct colors to create architectural composition rather than surface decoration. Finishes include water-based paints and natural oils. An optional Re:cycled sub-range offers terrazzo-style tops made from recycled plastic. The designers envision these items transitioning to secondary uses as side tables or coffee tables once children outgrow them. Moskalenko and Zakaliuk stated they approached designing a child's first table with the seriousness of architectural design, emphasizing respect for children's scale and imagination. The collection was featured in Dezeen Showroom, a platform for brand launches. Product specifications include multiple color options and dimensions of 510x440x570mm for the table and 310x210x240mm for the stool.
