Atelier Guo's Sugar House+ Micro-Architecture in Yangshuo

Atelier Guo has completed a series of small-scale structures as part of the Sugar House+ initiative at the Yangshuo Sugar House hotel in China. The project, launched in 2022, uses new pavilions to connect underutilized spaces within the former state-owned sugar refinery, which was restored between 2013 and 2017 by architect Zhao Chongxin, with Dong Gong overseeing the hotel rooms and general layout. The new additions include a Waterside Pavilion, a Hillside Pavilion, a DJ booth, and the Qushui Restaurant, completed later. The structures aim to unlock latent potential in the site. The project covers 100 m² and was completed in 2024. Principal architect Liaohui Guo led the design, with project architect Ziqian Wang and site architect Yuhui Xue.
