Artpace San Antonio Opens Texas Open Call for 2028 Residencies

Artpace San Antonio has launched its annual Texas open call, seeking artists from across the state for its International Artist-in-Residence (IAIR) program. Two artists will be selected for 2028 residencies, each joining a national and an international artist for spring and fall terms. Residents receive paid travel, a furnished apartment, a $6,000 living stipend, a $10,000 exhibition production budget, studio space, equipment access, technical and administrative support, and an 18-week exhibition. All applicants are eligible for studio visits from guest curators and participants in the Curatorial Residency program; the applicant list is shared with prominent visiting directors, curators, and writers worldwide. At least 20 Texas artists will be chosen for in-person studio visits in 2027. Since Linda Pace founded the program in 1995, Artpace has hosted 295 artists-in-residence globally. Recent Texas IAIR artists include Violette Bule (spring 2026), Ian Gerson (fall 2025), Laura Veles Drey (spring 2025), Celia Eberle (fall 2024), and José Villalobos (spring 2024).
