Artists and curators protest Israeli pavilion placement at 2026 Venice Biennale

At the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, a collective of artists and curators has raised concerns about the relocation of the Israeli pavilion to the Arsenale, claiming it interferes with Koyo Kouoh's exhibition titled "In Minor Keys." Among those voicing their support for marginalized communities are artists like Carolina Caycedo and Carrie Schneider, who reference the UN International Independent Commission of Inquiry's genocide findings against Palestinians. They also point to the ICC's arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, issued on November 21, 2024. The group, citing previous exclusions by La Biennale, is asking for the decision to be reversed by March 13, 2026, emphasizing the need for a Palestinian pavilion and the importance of preserving dignity for all.
