Arthur Casas Designs Bravissima House in Brazilian Forest Setting

Brazilian architect Arthur Casas has completed Bravissima House, a contemporary residence situated in a forested area of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The project, located on a steep slope in Itajaí, offers panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding woodland. Casas and his team repurposed an existing structure on the site to create a modern home for a family of four, emphasizing seamless indoor-outdoor connections through large terraces and open spaces. The two-level house includes three bedrooms, a primary suite with a workspace, a family room, a gym, a cinema room, and an upper floor dedicated to entertainment areas with a flowing layout. Materials such as wood, stone, and plastered walls highlight the natural environment, complemented by brushed metal accents. The interiors feature furniture designed by Casas, including the 'Fusca' sofa and 'Aiso' coffee table, alongside pieces by Brazilian designers like Jorge Zalszupin and Sérgio Rodrigues, and contemporary art by artists such as Mano Penalva and José Bechara. Landscape architect Renata Tilli developed a naturalistic scheme to integrate the house with the indigenous vegetation and topography. According to the architects, the design creates routes that blend interior and exterior, balancing functionality and comfort while reinforcing the relationship between architecture and its surroundings. This project reflects Casas's approach to crafting retreats attuned to their settings, continuing his residential explorations in Brazil.
