Art Historian John-Paul Stonard Criticizes Audio and Video Intrusions in Museum Exhibitions
Art historian John-Paul Stonard has issued warnings to museums about the integration of audio and video in their exhibitions. He reflects on his experience curating the Kenneth Clark: Looking for Civilisation show at Tate Britain in 2014, where certain audio elements drew criticism, including from The Burlington Magazine. Currently, the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art is displaying works by James McNeill Whistler until September 27, highlighted by a loud dispute between Whistler and Frederick Leyland, which may detract from the viewing experience. Stonard will discuss his latest book at the Cheltenham Literature Festival on October 14.
