Art Basel 2025 Preview Sales: $9.5M Ruth Asawa Sculpture Leads First-Day Transactions

Art Basel 2025, held at Messe Basel on June 17, 2025, experienced impressive sales. David Zwirner achieved $9.5 million from a Ruth Asawa sculpture and $6.8 million from a Gerhard Richter painting. Hauser & Wirth sold two works by Mark Bradford for $3.5 million each, along with pieces by Fausto Melotti, Piero Manzoni, Nicolas Party ($565,000), and Flora Yukhnovich ($575,000). Thaddaeus Ropac sold two paintings by Georg Baselitz for €1.8 million and €1.2 million, while White Cube's Baselitz painting fetched $2.2 million. Cai Guo-Qiang's Red Birds (2022) went for $1.2 million. Annely Juda Fine Art sold David Hockney's Mid November Tunnel (2006) for between $13-17 million. The public can access the fair starting June 19.
