Arri Alexa 35 Live Xtreme Targets Sports Broadcasting with 8x Slow-Mo

Arri has introduced the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme, a specialized version of its Alexa 35 Xtreme camera tailored for live sports broadcasting. This camera can deliver 8x slow-motion HD footage through standard SDI workflows and 2x slow-motion 4K UHD video without the need for a separate high-speed camera, a significant benefit for sports replays. It is also suitable for live concerts. Renowned for its cinematic color quality and natural skin tones, the camera ensures a uniform visual style for both live broadcasts and highlight reels. It features a Super 35 format Arri Alex 4 CMOS sensor, capturing ArriRAW at up to 4.6K Open Gate at 80 fps, 4K UHD at 125 fps, and HD up to 330 fps. ArriCORE can achieve 660 fps in 2K and HD, with a dynamic range of up to 17 stops and an electronic shutter ranging from 1s to 1/8000s. Recording formats include ArriRAW, ArriCORE, and Apple ProRes 4444 XQ, 4444, and 422 HQ. The fastest frame rates necessitate a sensor overdrive mode that limits dynamic range. Arri claims that broadcasters can now eliminate the need for separate HFR and standard cameras, streamlining their workflow. The Alexa 35 Live Standard System is priced at $115,400, while the base Alexa 35 Xtreme starts at $70,000. Immediate availability is noted, although retailers such as B&H indicate that configurations will be available soon.
