Archivo de Imaginación Workshop Uses Play to Challenge Traditional Architecture Education in Mexico

Archivo de Imaginación, a student-led platform addressing limitations in Mexican architecture education, organized the 'Homo Ludens: Laboratorio de Juego' workshop at Museo Experimental el Eco. The initiative, created by Ana Jimena Flores, Carlos Cortázar, Paola Mancilla, and Valentina Rodríguez, brought together students from various universities to explore play as a fundamental design methodology. Drawing on Johan Huizinga's theory that play underpins culture, the workshop employed Roger Caillois's frameworks to create collaborative, non-hierarchical learning experiences. It aimed to move beyond conventional classroom models and challenge the notion of individual genius in architecture, fostering collective creativity and alternative approaches to spatial understanding.
