Architectural Renovation in Vexin Valley Features Suspended Extension Blending Light and Landscape

An architectural project in the Vexin region involved the renovation of an existing structure and the addition of a suspended extension designed to connect with the natural environment. The original building, described as a noble construction, underwent complete restoration with a focus on purification and revelation rather than transformation. Superfluous partitions and finishes were removed to liberate spaces and highlight the original wooden framework. Plaster coverings were stripped away and shutters cleaned, exposing the texture of stone and flint fragments. This process restored the building's primary materiality and reinforced its connection to the Vexin landscape. In contrast to this mineral presence, the new extension adopts a complementary approach characterized by lightness and luminosity. Positioned perpendicular to the main volume, it moves away from shaded areas to maximize sunlight exposure. Elevated three meters above ground level, the extension engages with the surrounding slope and vegetation. A wooden walkway clad in polished stainless steel connects it to the main structure, opening toward the forest and sky reflections. The foundation incorporates concrete with flint aggregates, establishing a direct link to existing materials and local resources. A triangular pine framework—described as thin, rhythmic, and light—forms the aerial silhouette of the project. The design explores relationships between shadow, light, and material, creating an architecture in balance with nature and time.
