The architecture firm ba-rro has completed a renovation of a 1970s single-family home in Madrid, converting it into two separate but connected living spaces for twin sisters. The project divides the original structure asymmetrically, creating one four-bedroom family residence and one smaller urban-style unit. Key design elements include a sage green color scheme that unifies the exterior, visible metal downpipes, and interior materials like steel and birch wood. The renovation maintains the original brick and stone foundation while adding new geometric forms, including a cylindrical white volume housing a bathroom and a spiral metal staircase. The work explores how architecture can adapt existing structures to contemporary needs while preserving memory through material choices.
