Architectural Installation 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' Explores Urban Adaptation in Dhaka

An architectural installation titled 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' has been created by architects Saiqa Iqbal Meghna and Suvro Sovon Chowdhury. Curated by Miwa Negoro, the project functions both as a gallery exhibit and a public pavilion. Located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the installation addresses the environmental realities of the delta region, including water cycles, monsoon patterns, and fragile soil conditions. Designed to be adaptable and temporary, it occupies a compact footprint of 113 square feet. The structure emphasizes lightness, reversibility, and ease of assembly, disassembly, and relocation. It aims to create quiet gathering spaces within the dense urban fabric through minimal structures and artisanal craftsmanship. The design team included Trina Das, Ananna Hossain, Fahim Anan, and Yeasmin Ranu, with Studio Morphogenesis Ltd. serving as the architectural office. The installation explores how architecture can negotiate between representation and practical use, transitioning from a gallery artifact to an urban canopy. It is scheduled for completion in 2026.
