April 2026 Solo Exhibitions Highlight Diverse Artists Across U.S. Galleries

Galerie Magazine has identified eight significant solo gallery exhibitions taking place across the United States in April 2026. The featured shows span New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, presenting a diverse range of artistic practices and themes. In New York, David Smalling debuts at Templon with 'Elizabethan Collar,' a series of figurative paintings examining cultural hierarchies through Old Master techniques. Zhang Huan presents 'Ash Paintings and Performances' at 125 Newbury, featuring archival performance footage and works using temple ash. Vian Sora exhibits abstract paintings at Bortolami inspired by Mesopotamian history and personal displacement. Robert Mapplethorpe's work is shown in a new large-scale format at Gladstone, in collaboration with his foundation. Margaret Curtis returns to New York after two decades with feminist paintings at Post Times.
