Apple Unveils Mac Studio with M5 Ultra, Up to 512GB Unified Memory
Apple has introduced the M5 Ultra chip alongside an upgraded Mac Studio, its only professional desktop following the discontinuation of the Mac Pro. The new Mac Studio, which can be configured with either the M5 Max or M5 Ultra, delivers notable enhancements in performance compared to the M4 Max and M3 Ultra. According to Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, it represents 'the ultimate desktop for on-device AI.' The specifications include up to 4.3 times the AI performance, 1.8 times faster graphics, and 1.3 times improved CPU performance. The M5 Max features an 18-core CPU with 128GB of memory, while the M5 Ultra includes a 36-core CPU and 512GB of memory. Prices start at $2,499 for the M5 Max and $5,499 for the M5 Ultra, with availability set for September 22 and October for the fully equipped models.
