Apple Records Genius Bar Conversations with Live Notes Pilot

Apple has initiated a pilot program known as Live Notes, which captures conversations between customers and Genius Bar staff in its retail locations. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this system transcribes these exchanges and employs AI to create summaries, which are then stored on the employee's iPad. Recording can only commence if both parties consent. Apple asserts that the recordings are not retained, and managers do not access transcripts; employees have the ability to modify the transcript and summary before they are stored in Apple's internal database. This initiative has sparked worries regarding surveillance and performance tracking, reflecting wider trends in workplace productivity tools. Meanwhile, JPMorgan has introduced a similar monitoring system for meetings and keystrokes, and Meta encountered employee dissent over its keystroke tracking, resulting in higher snack budgets. Recently, Apple briefly reclaimed its title as the world's most valuable company, overtaking Nvidia, with both companies approaching a $5 trillion valuation.
