Antwerp's M HKA and City Acquire Eight Works from Local Art Spaces

The Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA) and the City of Antwerp have purchased eight artworks from six local art venues, reinforcing their support for the city's artistic community. These acquisitions, funded with €60,000 at the end of last year, come from spaces like LLS Paleis, SECONDROOM, Violet, Forbidden City, AAIMACHINE, and Lichtekooi, which are considered vital yet less prominent than established galleries. Since late 2020, the municipal initiative has acquired over one hundred pieces by Antwerp-based artists, guided by M HKA's curatorial vision to build a diverse collection with international and local relevance. The works have been displayed in exhibitions such as 'Lipstick and Gas Masks – The City Collection Antwerp' in 2021 and 'The City Collection: IN/SIGHT' from May 2024 to January 2025. This effort aims to strengthen the local art scene by including alternative spaces and supporting emerging and established artists aligned with the museum's focus on post-war avant-garde influences.
