Antony Hermus Appointed Chief Conductor of BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

Antony Hermus, known for his distinctive style in classical music, has been named the chief conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO), succeeding Ryan Wigglesworth, who held the position for the past five years. Hermus will officially start his new role in September 2027, right after his summer stint with the Belgian National Orchestra. He has been collaborating with the BBC SSO since 2018, delving into various musical repertoires. This autumn, he will lead performances of Mahler's Tenth Symphony in both Glasgow and Perth. Hermus has also introduced innovative projects, like Ligeti's works at the Lowlands festival in the Netherlands and the popular Scratch concerts. Dominic Parker from BBC SSO praised him, and Wigglesworth congratulated him while announcing his resignation.
