Antonio Biasiucci's 'Archetipi' Retrospective at the Reggia di Caserta

From May 31 to November 30, 2026, the Reggia di Caserta will host 'Archetipi', a major retrospective of the work of Italian photographer Antonio Biasiucci, curated by Tiziana Maffei. The exhibition features around three hundred photographs and installations that explore themes of memory, matter, ritual, and nature, transforming everyday objects like bread, milk, and the body into universal archetypes. Biasiucci's practice is described as a process of subtraction, reducing forms to their essential energy. The show is integrated into the monumental spaces of the Reggia, including the Gran Galleria and the Palatine Chapel, where twenty-seven ex voto are displayed. A key installation, 'Corpo latteo', offers an immersive experience with milk as a cosmic substance. The exhibition also addresses migration and loss through works like 'Molti', based on facial casts from the Museum of Anthropology in Naples and images by Lidio Cipriani, and two monoliths with numbers by Mimmo Paladino, referencing migrants lost at sea. The section dedicated to the Real Sito di San Leucio, on the 250th anniversary of the colony's founding, presents looms and machinery as traces of absent bodies. 'Archetipi' is part of the Reggia's ongoing photographic program, following 'Visioni e Prospettive', and aims to create a perceptual device that requires slow viewing, moving beyond recognizable imagery.
