Antiques Roadshow expert Theo Burrell dies at 39 from brain cancer

Theo Burrell, a ceramics and glass specialist on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow, has died at age 39 from glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. Diagnosed in June 2022 at age 35, she underwent surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Burrell, who worked for Lyon & Turnbull auctioneers in Edinburgh, joined the program in 2018. She became a patron of Brain Tumour Research in 2023 and campaigned for increased government funding, better diagnostics, and clinical trials. In 2024, she delivered a petition for brain cancer research to 10 Downing Street. She married her husband Alex earlier this year and celebrated her son's first day at school. Glioblastoma is incurable, with around 3,200 diagnoses annually in the UK and only about 160 patients surviving five years. Burrell died peacefully on Wednesday surrounded by family, according to a statement on her Instagram.
