Anthropic Commits 5% of Shares to New Public Benefit Fund

ai-technology · 2026-10-18

Anthropic has launched the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a fully-owned LLC, designed to direct 5% of its shares towards public welfare, subject to stockholder approval. Additionally, for every 50% rise in the company's value, an extra 2% will be allocated. This effort is part of the co-founders' commitment to donate 80% of their shares and includes an employee equity donation matching program, amounting to approximately 20% for public benefit. The LLC format provides the company with the freedom to give, while excluding lobbying activities. Anthropic has pledged $200 million to research AI's effects on the labor market and intends to make larger contributions through the Fund. Furthermore, the company is strengthening election protections for the 2026 US midterms and has established an office in Singapore.
