Anouk Beckers' Booklook Turns Fashion Magazines Into Wearable Garments

publication · 2026-10-20

Since 2022, Anouk Beckers, an artist based in Amsterdam, has published three editions of Booklook, a unique self-produced series that transforms a single sheet into both a book and a wearable piece. The inaugural edition, titled "Apron – Delantal," was launched alongside "Shirt," while "Speespak" followed in August. A graduate of Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Beckers explores fashion systems and the neglect of garment histories. The first issue highlights the Tseltalero dress with contributions from María Naidich, the second includes an essay by Alessandra Varisco, and the third revisits Iris de Leeuw's 1966 Speespak. The launch of "Shirt" on March 23, 2023, featured a crochet performance, with distribution for the third issue handled by JessePresse and IdeaBooks. A fourth edition is currently in development.
