Anna Condo's Collection of Unseen George Condo Works Heads to Christie's Auction

Anna Condo, the former wife of American painter George Condo, is selling 27 previously unexhibited and unsold works from her collection at Christie's Post-War and Contemporary Art day sale on May 21. The auction concludes Christie's Spring Marquee Week in New York. Anna Condo, a multidisciplinary artist who grew up in France, selected these pieces during divorce proceedings in 2017 after their 28-year marriage. The couple first met in 1988 at a cafe and later reconnected at a nightclub. Highlights include Untitled (2010), estimated at $50,000–$70,000, featuring a woman in Condo's Picasso-inspired portrait style. Rodrigo and the Maid (2008), a mid-sized sculpture with a $200,000–$300,000 estimate, recalls their early years in France and visits to the Clementi foundry in Meudon. Untitled (2001), valued at $500,000–$700,000, evokes memories of September 11, 2001, when Anna had just dropped their daughters at school. George Condo's most expensive auction work remains Force Field (2010), which sold for $6.8 million at Christie's Hong Kong in 2020. In 2026, his painting Infiltration (2017) fetched $3 million at Sotheby's London in March. Anna Condo noted that George's exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris this winter made it the right moment for New York to see more early works, reflecting his signature back-and-forth between figuration and abstraction. Christie's described each artwork as representing different chapters and memories for Anna.
