Anna and Eugeni Bach extend holiday home in Catalan village with porches and pergolas

Anna and Eugeni Bach, an architecture firm based in Barcelona, has revamped and enlarged a vacation home in the charming village of Fonolleres, Spain. They added porches, pergolas, and terraces to enhance outdoor living while preserving much of the original house, integrating new features that reflect the village's historical character. The materials used—terracotta bricks, wood, and silicate paint—blend beautifully with the local ochre stone and ceramic styles. A standout feature is a long porch that runs alongside the garden and partially shelters the pool, creating a dining space. Inside, a striking triangular double-height area connects the library and music studio below with the main bedroom above, mirroring the outdoor barbecue's shape. Since 1999, the studio has also tackled urban planning, interiors, and object design, including a renovated 19th-century chocolate factory and a Barcelona apartment building with yellow balconies.
