Ann Temkin, Curator Behind MoMA's Radical Rehang, to Leave Museum
Ann Temkin, who became part of the Museum of Modern Art in 2003 and took on the role of head of the painting and sculpture department in 2008, is departing. In 2019, she spearheaded a transformative reorganization of MoMA's collection, moving away from rigid chronological arrangements to a more cohesive permanent display. Temkin's efforts increased representation of women, artists of African descent, and non-Western creators. Significant pairings featured Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) alongside Faith Ringgold's American People Series #20: Die (1967). Her curated temporary exhibitions included the Marcel Duchamp survey (2026), Projects: Marlon Mullen (2024), and Matisse: The Red Studio (2022), among others from 2008 to 2024.
