Angelo Morbelli Archive Now Accessible at Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona

cultural-heritage · 2026-07-09

In 2022, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona successfully acquired and organized the Angelo Morbelli archive, which has recently been made accessible to the public. This extensive collection comprises 740 documents divided into three categories: writings, correspondence, and press clippings, all of which can be accessed at www.ildivisionismo.it. The project was led by art historian Giovanna Ginex and archivist Alessia Francone. Notably, the archive features letters from international contacts and Morbelli's exchanges with foreign institutions, along with four notebooks titled 'Via Crucis del Divisionismo.' The collection, covering the years 1881 to 1919, has identified 48 correspondents. A study day on artist archives included presentations by speakers such as Cinzia Lacchia, who highlighted Morbelli's painting 'Per ottanta centesimi' and a 1912 exhibition.
