Angèle's New Album Cover Pays Homage to M.C. Escher's Optical Art

Belgian singer Angèle has unveiled the cover art for her upcoming album 'Instinct', which pays direct homage to the optical art master M.C. Escher. The cover, photographed by British fashion photographer Grant James-Thomas, features Angèle holding a chrome sphere reflecting her image, surrounded by instruments and references to her previous albums 'Brol' (2019) and 'Nonante-Cinq' (2021). The artwork is a clear nod to Escher's 'Hand with Reflecting Sphere' (1935), a lithograph that plays with visual distortion and perspective. The album, set for release on October 16, 2026, via GGL Records, marks Angèle's continued shift toward electronic music, with features from Justice, Soulwax, SebastiAn, and Caroline Polachek. The cover also subtly references the Atomium in Brussels, an iconic structure from the 1958 World's Fair, reflecting Angèle's Belgian roots. Escher, a Dutch artist known for his impossible worlds and optical illusions, has a museum dedicated to him in The Hague, Netherlands. Angèle's homage comes two years after her memorable performance at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony, where she accompanied Phoenix and Kavinsky on 'Nightcall'.
