Ana Silva's 'Eau' Exhibition at GAMeC Addresses Water Crisis Through Textile Art

GAMeC in Italy will present 'Eau,' the first institutional solo exhibition in the country by Angolan-Portuguese artist Ana Silva, opening February 25, 2026. The exhibition, created for the museum's Spazio Zero, focuses on water access issues through textile works. Silva collaborates with local embroiderers who add to her pieces, which begin with designs executed by Angolan male embroiderers due to cultural norms, then completed by the artist with hand-applied decorations. Her practice reclaims industrial fabrics and feminine crafts to critique globalization, consumption, and colonial legacies, while also featuring earlier works like the 'O Fardo / Vestir Memórias' series made from repurposed clothing transport bags.
