Amol K Patil's Swiss debut at Galerie Peter Kilchmann examines caste and urban invisibility

Galerie Peter Kilchmann in Zurich presents Amol K Patil's first Swiss solo exhibition, titled The Shadow of Lustre. The artist showcases bronze sculptures, paintings, drawings, and video works within poetic installations featuring pulsating lights. Patil investigates the Indian caste and class system, specifically highlighting the invisibility of the working class in social narratives. This presentation is a new iteration of an exhibition originally created in 2025 in collaboration with Röda Sten Konsthall in Gothenburg, Sweden, curated by Amila Puzić. The focus is on the experiences of Dalits, members of India's lowest caste, who migrated from villages to cities and settled in working-class neighborhoods of Mumbai, the artist's hometown. Patil's concept centers on perceiving traces of human history, lives, and intergenerational conversations found in wall cracks, layers of paint, and through skin and touch. The exhibition marks a significant European presentation for the internationally recognized artist, expanding the reach of his socially engaged practice.
