AMNH Launches World Cup Programming with Watch Parties and Sports Exhibitions

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York is embracing the FIFA World Cup as a cultural phenomenon, launching a series of watch parties and exhibitions starting June 11. Matches will be broadcast on the LeFrak Theater's 60-by-40-foot screen, in the Cullman Hall of the Universe, and in the newly opened Global Sports Pavilion in the Futter Gallery. The programming includes the exhibition "For the Win: Objects of Sports Excellence," featuring over 70 championship trophies, medals, and jewelry from nearly 150 years of sports history, on view through early 2027 in the Allison and Roberto Mignone Halls of Gems and Minerals. The interactive "Goal Zone" experience, running through September 13, offers digital simulators, virtual shooting and goalkeeping competitions, and wax figures from Madame Tussauds New York. The Global Sports Pavilion, open through January 3, presents large-scale photography and video installations exploring sports moments and ball design. Learning Labs Sports Activations on select days explore biomechanics and creativity. A community event on July 11 pairs Manhattanhenge with celebrations of neighborhood sports like pickup soccer, double Dutch, and street dominoes.
