AMIDA Releases NASA Tribute Watch with Ceramic Shell Inspired by Space Shuttle Tiles

Swiss watchmaker AMIDA has introduced the Digitrend NASA Tribute timepiece, featuring a ceramic shell design inspired by the thermal protection tiles used on NASA's Space Shuttle orbiters. The watch's case is constructed from a metallic monobloc with a black DLC (diamond-like carbon) finish, creating a surface that reflects light similarly to the shuttle's multi-panel tiled exterior. The design references NASA's Space Transportation System, which operated 135 missions between 1981 and 2011, during which approximately 24,000 ceramic tiles protected the spacecraft during atmospheric reentry. The watch dial incorporates the NASA 'worm' logotype, a typographic emblem designed by Richard Danne and Bruce Blackburn in 1975 that was used until 1992 and reinstated in 2020. The time display uses a mechanical jumping hour mechanism visible through a sapphire crystal prism, powered by a Soprod Newton P092 automatic movement. The strap combines leather with fabric reminiscent of spacesuit materials, secured with hook-and-loop fasteners. AMIDA plans to launch this tribute model in May 2026.
