American University Museum to Show Timothy Makepeace's James Webb Telescope Art

exhibition · 2026-06-14

Starting June 13 and running until August 9, 2026, the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center in Washington, DC, will feature an exhibition titled Ghost in the Machine by Timothy Makepeace. Curated by Michael O’Sullivan and Thomas Drymon, this showcase is the result of nine years of artistic research inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope. Back in 2017, Makepeace was among a select group of artists granted special access to the telescope while it was being built at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. This unique opportunity sparked a profound exploration into the significance of a machine designed to observe the universe's origins.
