Alvin Ong's 'Another Life' at rodolphe janssen: Recovery and Reinvention

Rodolphe Janssen is showcasing 'Another Life', a fresh collection by Alvin Ong that chronicles the artist's journey of recovery from a self-admitted burnout in 2025. This exhibition highlights paintings rich in texture and layered complexity, where figures appear ethereal and merge into one another. Individual faces express sorrow, often fragmented into multiple or split identities. Heads act as vessels for different scenes, with eyes intentionally omitted or obscured, resembling blindfolds or reflective surfaces. The recurring motif of screens engages the audience as observers. A notable shift in Ong's work includes the use of texts and embedded rhinestones, drawing from the devotional nature of painting and his religious background. Additionally, 'Residues', a series featuring found antique blinds and signboards from Singapore, is part of the display. The exhibition is currently open at Rodolphe Janssen in Brussels, Belgium.
