Algorithmic Labyrinth Explores Surveillance in Sergen Şehitoğlu's Istanbul Show

The SANATORIUM gallery in Istanbul is set to showcase Sergen Şehitoğlu's solo exhibition titled "Forking Paths" from June 4 to July 18, 2026. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges's short story "The Garden of Forking Paths," this exhibition employs a labyrinthine design to explore the dynamics of continuous choices, dead ends, and infinite cycles. This labyrinth serves as a metaphor for modern issues such as surveillance, guided decisions, and inevitability, encouraging viewers to engage with the system head-on. The spatial configuration is dictated by algorithmic principles, featuring exit points, dead ends, and loops, with each pathway shaped by predetermined variables. The design references René Descartes's analytic geometry, viewing mathematics as a structured system.
