Alex Heilbron's 'All Systems Fail' Exhibition Explores Digital Glitches Through Hand-Painted Canvases

In her solo exhibition titled 'All Systems Fail' at as-is gallery, Alex Heilbron showcased six new paintings. Created in 2025, these pieces delve into the tension between digital frameworks and tangible reality through meticulous techniques. Heilbron transforms images sourced from the internet into glitches, which she then translates into vinyl stencils on five-by-seven-foot canvases. Prominent themes include grids, gratings, matrices of hole-punched circles, and a four-petalled flower icon, all rendered in distorted hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Works such as 'Output System' and 'The Tools Dig Deeper (Pictorial)' illustrate the intrusion of digital motifs on painterly surfaces. The exhibition reflects on the chaos that digital information systems can create, drawing on early computing technologies.
